A senior citizen was killed after a car driven by the driver of a state assemblyman hit the motorcycle he was riding, yesterday.
The incident occurred at Kilometre 142, Johor Baharu-Melaka Road, Parit Sempadan Semerah near Batu Pahat, at 6.47pm.
Batu Pahat District police chief ACP Abdul Wahib Musa said Hasnan Ganon, 72, from Kampung Parit Sempadan, died at the scene.
"The victim was heading to Semerah from Batu Pahat and had stopped in the middle of the road to turn to the right junction when a BMW X5 car driven by the driver of an assemblyman knocked his Yamaha SS from behind.
"The driver aged 39 was alone in the car," Abdul Wahib told Bernama when contacted today.
He said police detained the driver who did not have any traffic conviction, to assist in the investigation, and later released him.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
