Senior citizen killed in freak accident

A senior citizen was killed after a drum containing metal chloride, together weighing one tonne, fell off a trailer and hit him in Jalan Lahat, Menglembu, here, Wednesday evening.

Cheah Seaw Oon @ Cheah Seaw Oow, 65, was killed when one of seven such drums carried by the trailer came loose after his motorcycle collided with it at 5.25 pm.

Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Department chief Ismail Darus said seven members of the Emergency Medical Rescue Team rushed to the location and took a minute to extricate the victim’s body which was pinned under the drum.

“We used a lifting bag to lift the drum and extricate the victim’s body,” he told reporters at the scene.

He said the mishap did not cause any of the drums to leak, adding that the victim was heading to work at his brother’s restaurant nearby when the incident happened.
