Senior Customs officer pleads not guilty to corruption charge

A senior Customs officer with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department today pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to seven counts of accepting bribes totalling RM10,100 between October, 2013 to August 2014.
Mohd Zulkifli Dollah, 49, was accused with accepting bribes of RM500 each from October and December last year as well as February and April this year, from a Malaysian, inside a car, as an inducement to not conduct checks on an alcohol premise in Taman Harmoni Indah, Seri Kembangan.
He was also accused of accepting bribes totalling RM2,700 in June, July and August this year, from a Malaysian representative, inside a car, as an inducement to not conduct checks on the same premise.
Mohd Zulkifli was charged under Section 16 (a) (A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commisions Act (MACC) 2009 which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received, if convicted.
MACC deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi had asked for a bail of RM15,000 with one surety.
However, Judge Mohd Nasir Nordin granted him a bail of RM10,000 with one surety and set Oct 30 as the mention date for the case in the Special Corruption Court in Shah Alam.
The accused was represented by Feizal Mustafa.
Meanwhile, in a separate Sessions Court, another Selangor Senior Customs Officer pleaded not guilty to ten counts of accepting bribes totalling RM20,000 between September 2013 to August 2014.
Judge Allaudeen Ismail set Oct 30 as the mention date for Mohd Nor Sukri Mohd Mokhtar’s case in the Special Corruption Court in Shah Alam.
