KUALA LUMPUR: Several Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders began arriving at the UMNO headquarters at Menara Dato 'Onn, World Trade Centre (WTC) here to attend the BN Supreme Council meeting.
Up until 11.15 am those seen were UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon and MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan
Sabah BN and UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon and Melaka BN chairman also UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and two other members Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias were also present.
Today's meeting is important to determine BN's stance on whether to be on Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Perikatan Nasional (PN) side to secure a simple majority to form a government.
Based on the official results announced by the Election Commission (SPR) on Sunday morning, BN failed miserably in the 15th general election (GE15) winning only 30 seats while PH won 82 and PN 73.
With a hung parliament as no political party or coalition managed to get a simple majority to form the federal government, PH and PN need to find an alliance to form a new government.
Meanwhile, Jalaluddin when speaking to the media before the meeting, said that for now, BN has yet to decide on joining PH.
"I still hold on to the decision (stance) made by UMNO and BN leaders earlier, that there must be no cooperation with PH. If we want to form a coalition government then we have to call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM)," said the Jelebu MP.
