The Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 will be enforced beginning July 10, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said posted on her Facebook today.
She also confirmed having signed the document on the date for the law to take effect earlier today.
"I have signed the document on the date for the law to begin to be enforced at my office some time ago today," said the minister, who also uploaded an image of her signing the document.
The law is aimed at protecting children aged 18 and below from sexual crimes which is inline with the Child Act 2001.
Under the law, offenders of sexual crime against children aged 18 and below could face an imprisonment for up to 20 years and is liable to whipping, and those found making, possessing and distributing child pornography could be jailed up to 30 years and six strokes of the cane, as well as fine of up to RM5,000, if found withholding information on sexual crimes against children.
