Shafie Apdal confirms letter of motion of confidence in Tun M

Semporna Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has confirmed a letter that has gone viral in seeking a motion of confidence in former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when Parliament convenes for its one-day sitting on May 18.

However, the Sabah Chief Minister, who was asked during a press conference after a visit to the Terusan Sapi Rice Factory here, however, only commented briefly.

"Let's wait for the time being ... that’s a Dewan Rakyat sitting and this is a visit (to Terusan Sapi Rice Factory).

"Yes, yes we have seen it (the letter)," he said.

He was asked by reporters following a letter from the Semporna Parliamentary Office on the resolution to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat that the majority of members of Parliament (MPs) are supporting Dr Mahathir.

Mohd Shafie, who is also the President of the Sabah Warisan Party (Warisan), is believed to have signed the letter.

The letter dated May 1, 2020 was sent to Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof seeking permission to bring a motion that Tun Dr Mahathir had the confidence of the majority of the House members under the 26 (1) House Rules. together with the Rules of Meeting 27 (3) of the House Rules.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Dewan Rakyat Riduan Rahmat when contacted by Astro AWANI confirmed the letter.

He said he would release an official statement on Friday (May 8, 2020).
