Shahrir Samad makes a comeback as BNBBC Chairman
Member of Parliament for Johor Baharu Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad has once again been elected to helm the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) for the 13th Parliament.
Shahrir, 63, quit as BNBBC chairman during the 11th Parliament in 2006 after causing an uproar on whether government parliamentarians could support motions tabled by the opposition.
The club had since been headed by Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing as Shahrir was not nominated for re-election during the 12th Parliament.
Shahrir, who was elected for the post yesterday, told reporters at Parliament today that Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Moktar Radin was elected deputy chairman and Mersing MP Datuk Dr Latiff Ahmad, secretary. The BBC line-up will be finalised by the end of the week, said Shahrir.
Calling on BN MPs to back their argument with facts and fall in line with government policies, he also expressed his hope that cooperation between the executive and the club could be further enhanced.
