Shalwati and Azizul's trial to conclude on Friday

The Solna District Court has set Friday, March 14 to hear lawyers’ submissions on the trial of Malaysian couple detained in Sweden for hitting their four children.

The court hearing on Wednesday also saw three social service officers testifying before Chief Judge Mottias Moller, with prosecutor Anna Arnell questioning the three officers in Swedish.

According to the couple’s family member who attended the hearing, there was no translator present for this trial and neither were they provided with the interpreter earpiece throughout the questioning.

On the tenth day of trial, the court also discussed the possibility of community service instead of jail term for both Shalwati and Azizul should they be convicted with violation of integrity of their children.

Since there was no prior record on both Shalwati and Azizul, the judge said that the community service can be an alternative to jail term.

The couple have yet to meet their children since Dec 18, when they were detained for violation of integrity of their children.

Azizul, an officer with Tourism Malaysia and his wife, Shalwati Nor Shal, a teacher on unpaid leave have been detained for allegedly abusing their four children in their home in Spanga, Sweden.

Their children Aisyah, 14, Ammar 12, Adam 11 and Arif 7, who are now under the care of their aunt in Kelantan were brought home from Sweden by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, last month.
