Shalwati Nor Shal and Azizul Raheem Awaluddin found guilty

Malaysian couple, Shalwati Norshal and Azizul Raheem Awalluddin have been found guilty by the Solna District Court for repeated assaults and violation of their children's integrity, under Section 4A of Chapter 4 of the Swedish Penal Code.

According to Kristopher Stahre, his client Shalwati Norshal was found guilty for repeated assaults on all four children and will serve a 14 month jail term starting from the day she was detained. However, under this conditional release, Shalwati will have to serve about seven months or less imprisonment and this is subject to good behaviour.

Azizul Raheem Awaluddin was sentenced to a 10 month jail term for abusing three of his children. However, he was acquitted of any offences against his youngest son.

Chief Judge Mattias Moller also announced that both Shalwati and Azizul will have to pay damages to their children and they will not face an expulsion after serving their terms.

Stahre added that he is still in discussions with his client on whether they should go forward with an appeal.

The couple have yet to meet their children since December 18, when they were detained for violation of integrity of their children.

Azizul, an officer with Tourism Malaysia and his wife, Shalwati, a teacher on unpaid leave have been detained for allegedly abusing their four children in their home in Spanga, Sweden.

Their children Aisyah, 14, Ammar 12, Adam 11 and Arif 7, who are now under the care of their aunt in Kelantan were brought home from Sweden by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, last month.
