Shalwati remand extended for another 11 days

Prosecutor, Anna Arnell, requested from the court the extension due to Shalwati being a flight risk and also to conduct further investigations.

The next hearing for the both of them will be on Feb 10, 2014.

Azizul's remand was extended on Thursday by the courts.

Shalwati witnessed the procedings in court on Friday via video link, while her lawyer, Kristofer Stahre, was present in person.

Azizul and Shalwati have been detained since Dec 18, 2013 on accusations of abusing their children. Sweden made illegal all forms of physical punishment for children in 1979.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, had also flown in to Stockholm under the instruction of the Prime Minister to meet with his Swedish counterpart, the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Frank Belfrage, to negotiate the transfer of the children from a Swedish non-Muslim family to a Malaysian Muslim one.

As much as the efforts of Wisma Putra have been a success in getting the children into the custody of the Malaysian embassy, it was still a bitter-sweet moment for the children, whose parents are still under remand.

Hamzah, who had also met with Azizul and Shalwati, conveyed a heartfelt and emotional message from them to their four children
