Shop assistant charged with assaulting cops

MUHAMMAD SHAZWAN: Requested for the bail sum to be reduced saying his client only earns RM700a month
A furniture shop worker was today charged at the magistrate’s court here with two counts of using criminal force against two policemen last week.
Maikir Jumadil, 23, was charged with assaulting and preventing Lance Corporal Nizam Abdul Wahab and Lance Corporal Muhamad Nizam Mustapha from carrying out their duties as public servants.
The accused was alleged to have inflicted injuries on the eye area of both policemen at 4pm on Dec 16 in Jalan Bendung, Brickfields.
Maikir who was dressed in a dark blue t-shirt and jeans, claimed trial to the charges.
Deputy public prosecutor Wong Chai Sia requested bail to be set at RM5,000 however Maikir's lawyer Muhammad Shazwan Mohd Salleh requested for the bail sum to be reduced saying his client was the sole breadwinner of his family and his monthly salary was only RM700.
Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir later set bail at RM4,500 with one surety and fixed Jan 17 for mention.
