A gold trader was injured when a couple of unknown assailants on a motorbike fired four shots at him while he was driving home in Kampung Sering here last night.

Kota Baharu police chief ACP Azham Othman said the 49-year-old victim was hit twice on his shoulders at 7.40pm but reported to be in stable condition.

"He was driving from Kota Baharu when the men approached on a motorbike and one of them fired four shots. The victim was hit twice on the right and left shoulders," he told reporters at the scene last night.

Azham said the victim's car had then skidded and crashed into a tree by the side of the road and the suspects fled the scene.

He said the case has been classified under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and urged those who had witnessed the shooting to contact the police.
