Siamese community hopes Ahmad Bashah repeals Siamese Agriculture Certificate

The Siamese community is hoping the new Menteri Besar will abolish the Siamese Agriculture Certificate, a requirement for them to apply for Malay Reserve Land in the state and to be involved in agricultural activities.

Siamese community representative, Senator Datuk Seri Boon Som Inong, who congratulated Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah on his appointment as the new Kedah Menteri Besar, hoped the issue could be addressed as the certificate had resulted in various problems.

The Kedah state government should follow the Perlis state government in repealing the certificate, he said in a statement Wednesday.

"It is in line with the position of the Siamese community as Malaysians as well as their Bumiputera status as decided by the federal government," he said.

He said it was to facilitate members of the Kedah Siamese community to be involved agriculture like other citizens.

Boon Som also hoped Ahmad Bashah could also assist the community with annual assistance for Siamese temples as well as Siamese Language Schools operating in Siamese temples in Kedah.

Ahmad Bashah replaced Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who resigned yesterday after losing majority support at the Kedah State Legislative Assembly. He will swear in as Kedah Menteri Besar on Wednesday.
