Singapore deploys another aircraft to search for missing Malaysian plane

As a multinational search for a missing Malaysian airliner entered its seventh day Friday, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has sent another aircraft to join the search team.

The RSAF said in its Facebook post that it was sending a Fokker-50 maritime patrol aircraft to assist in the search-and-locate operation in the Strait of Melaka.

The aircraft is equipped with radar and electro-optic sensors, it said.

It also said that the Fokker-50 aircraft played a key role in the maritime security of the Strait of Melaka as part of the 'Eyes in the Sky' programme undertaken by the three littoral states of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, along with Thailand.

Singapore has so far sent two military transport planes, a naval helicopter, two warships and a submarine support and rescue vessel to help with the search for the missing Malaysian aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing about an hour after taking off from the KL International Airport in Sepang at 12.41 am last Saturday.
