KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will embark on a working visit to Malaysia from June 11 to 12, marking his first visit to Malaysia as premier.
In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said during the visit, Wong is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss efforts to strengthen ties and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
It said both leaders are expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, and will subsequently hold a joint press conference.
According to the statement, Wong will also be meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as part of his official engagements.
"The working visit underscores Malaysia and Singapore's shared commitment to bolstering the longstanding relations and preparing for the Annual Leaders' Retreat to be hosted by Malaysia at the end of this year."
It noted that in 2023, Malaysia and Singapore were each other's second-largest global trading partners. Singapore was also Malaysia's largest trading partner among ASEAN countries with total trade valued at RM363.13 billion (US$79.60 billion).
