Sisters jailed and fined for stealing at supermarket

Two sisters were sentenced to a day's jail and fined RM1,000 after they pleaded guilty to stealing various goods from a supermarket here three days ago.
Salmah Ismail, 42, of Cheras and Hasnani Ismail, 41, of Batu Caves, Selangor pleaded guilty before Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin to stealing branded children's clothing, a bed sheet set and stationery valued at RM1,497.76 at the AEON Supermarket in Taman Maluri, Cheras, at 2.15 pm on Dec 21.
The sisters, both single mothers, said in mitigation that they had to steal because they had to take care of their children.
Salmah has one child while Hasnani has five, some of them schooling.
Insp Zuraimi Kamarulzaman appeared for the prosecution while the women were not represented.
