KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need to declare an emergency but call all leaders to sit at the same table to approve the 2021 Budget without the need for an election.
That is the suggestion of Muar Member of Parliament, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman who stressed that all parties need to set aside their egos and break the party walls for the sake of Malaysia.
According to him, he had faced a similar situation when trying to amend the Constitution to allow 18-year-olds to vote in the election.
“In the past, I was ridiculed when I tried to amend the constitution (UNDI18) even though the government did not have the support of 2/3 of the parliamentarians.
“This has never happened in the history of Malaysia but, Alhamdulillah, because of "bipartisanhip", we managed to do it together.
"I was insulted by some leaders for sitting with the opposition to work for the national agenda," he said on his official Facebook on Saturday.
Syed Saddiq stressed that he continued to move because he believed that history could be created and Malaysians needed more politicians who were not in favour of the party alone but thought of the people as well.
"I hope the Prime Minister can consider my proposal. If you are afraid that there will not be enough support in Parliament, do not take the easy way to suspend Parliament and democracy.
"Meet with everyone and find the middle point together," he said.
Syed Saddiq added that Malaysia has done it before and can do it again this time.
Yesterday evening, Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah consented for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to have an audience at Istana Abdul Aziz, Kuantan.
The audience was sought by the Prime Minister following the Special Meeting of the Cabinet which he chaired in Putrajaya in the morning.
Meanwhile, Al-Sultan Abdullah advised the people to be calm, not panic and avoid speculating on the current situation in the country, following His Majesty's meeting with Muhyiddin yesterday.
Al-Sultan Abdullah said that he was willing to hold talks with the Malay Rulers in the near future to discuss and study the proposals put forward by Muhyiddin at the meeting yesterday.
