Renowned local singer, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza who is active is on Twitter, has rubbished talks that her tweets are political in nature.

Instead, the singer, who tweets on @CTNurhaliza11 said her tweets were strictly about the discrimination in the local entertainment industry.

Siti had supported those who criticised the act of bringing down international star Psy for the national level Chinese New Year celebration in Penang by retweeting their tweets.

This includes retweeting her stepson Aazief Khalid’s tweet.

Siti said the social media is used as a medium to express opinions and anyone can assume the tweets from various perspectives.

“This is about my voice as a Malaysian artist, more so because it involves other artists’ dignity. We ourselves thought about how great an opportunity it (the opportunity to perform) was given to local artists,” said Siti.

Siti said she hopes concert organisers would help local acts much as they did with international artists.

“I am not against international artists coming here. In fact, I myself use some of their songs for my performances.

“But, organisers should give local acts a chance too,” she said.
