Six policemen plead not guilty to RM8,000 bribery charge

All of them, in their 20s and 50s, were also charged for not reporting the bribery.

The accused are Koperal Mazlan Muhd Nor, 34, Lans Koperal Mohd Azmie Majid @Majied, 29, Konstabel Mohamad Firdaus Abdullah, 24, Koperal Mohd Juhairy Jamaludin, 32, Lans Koperal Mohd Hazly Tomiran, 29, and Konstabel Mohd Hafizi Abdullah, 28.

“If found guilty, they can be fined not less than RM10,000 or five times the bribe they received, whichever is higher, and be jailed for a maximum 20 years,” stated a statement from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to the statement, Mazlan faces two charges under Section 16 (a)(B) MACC Act 2009 for accepting bribery worth RM7,000 and RM1,000.

Mohd Azmie, Mohamad Firdaus and Mohd Juhairy who conspired with Mazlan were also charged under the same Act. The charges for the trio were also mentioned with Section 28 (1)(c) and Section 25 (3) MACC Act 2009 for not reporting Mazlan’s wrongdoing.

The accused committed the offence between 2 to 4am on Disember 18 last year at a restaurant in Muadzam Shah, Rompin.

“All of them are alleged to have received bribes for not taking action against a lorry driver who did not have the permits and alicences to transport rubberwood.

MACC was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafinas.
