KUANTAN: Staff of the Menara Kuantan 188 did their part to enliven the National Month celebration in a skywalk performance, during which they waved the Jalur Gemilang while encircling the 104 metre-high open platform of the tower.
Mohd Nazrin Zahari, 31, Nurul Hamiraa Jaafar, 30, Mohd Faizan Mohd Fauzi, 24, and Nurul Alia Azzahira Ramlan, 22, regarded their act as giving them a "sweet and memorable experience" to commemorate this year's National Day celebration.
While waving the Jalur Gemilang, they did four static styles while showing the direction of Cameron Highlands, Tasik Bera, Rompin, and Kuantan, and a Fly to Pekan performance, on the tower, which offers a 360 degree view of the Kuantan city.
According to Nurul Hamiraa, it was the first time that she participated in an extreme sport activity for a National Day-related programme.
"I really do feel proud for having the opportunity to fly the Malaysian flag while circling the tower, which offers a 360 degree view of Kuantan. It gives me a kind of feeling and experience that I will never forget," she said.
As for Mohd Faizan, he regarded their act as an initiative to rekindle the feeling of love for the country among the people when seeing the Jalur Gemilang flying high in the sky.
Meanwhile, Kuantan 188 Skywalk chief operator Azlan Mat Tajudin, who has more than 10 years experience in handling extreme sports, said the staff were briefed on the safety aspects and were provided with personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as harness, before they were allowed to do the various stunts with the Jalur Gemilang.
Kuantan 188 managing director Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad said the initiative was one of the efforts by the management to enliven the National Month.
"We welcome visitors who want to do the skywalk activity to show their love for the country while waving the Jalur Gemilang.
"The sport activity is offered from 10 am to 10 pm, depending on weather conditions, with a fee of RM98 per person," he added.
He said various other activities are also held in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebration, including 'base jump', 'wall climbing', sales expo, as well as the Kuantan 188 Festival on Sept 3, which is a stage event with performance by local artistes and the introduction of Project Mapping technology.
