Smuggling of undeclared liquor: MACC detains another person
The man, aged 39, was detained in a hotel in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
An individual suspected of conspiring with Customs officials and accepting bribes from a syndicate smuggling undeclared liquour has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
MACC's director of investigations Datuk Mohd Jamidan Abdullah said the man, aged 39, was detained in a hotel in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
He said the individual had been remanded to assist investigations.
"A seven-day remand order on him was issued by the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court today," he said in a statement, yesterday.
Mohd Jamidan said the man was the 31st person to be detained by the MACC in its crackdown on smuggling of undeclared liquor.
As of Thursday, 12 Customs officers have been charged in stages in the Special Corruption Sessions Court in Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh.
The statement said 16 Customs officers were still being remanded until Monday to assist in investigations into such smuggling.
The detention of all the individuals is the result of a year-long surveillance done at the Port Klang Duty Free Trade Zone.
