PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali today demanded three things from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy appeal which will be heard in October.
He demanded for prosecutor with UMNO spirits to be dropped from the case, referring to UMNO lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who is part of the prosecution team.
The case to remove Muhammad Shafee from the prosecution will be heard on Oct 14.
“If you are sincere about transformation, then drop all prosecution against Anwar’s lawyers including N. Surendran,” he said of his second demand at the PKR’s 10th national congress at Stadium Malawati today.
He also demanded for a live telecast of the proceeding.
“If Najib is brave and honest, do a live telecast of the proceeding. Let the people be the judge,” he said.
On March 7, Anwar was sentenced to five years of prison by the Appeals Court after being found guilty of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Anwar’s final appeal will be heard at the Federal Court on Oct 28 and 29.
On Aug 19, Padang Serai member of Parliament, Surendran pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court on the charge of publishing article which was seditious in nature on the Court of Appeal’s judgement in Anwar’s second sodomy case.
