Soldier in remand over explosion case in Tumpat

A 29-year-old soldier is in remand for seven days beginning today to assist police investigation into an explosion which killed a school clerk at Taman Seri Periuk, Kampung Periuk, Tumpat last Sunday.
Kelantan deputy police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the suspect was detained in Tumpat at 5pm yesterday.
He was being detained to facilitate investigation into an explosion case in which Mohd Yusrizal Mat Zain, 32, a clerk at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Manek Urai, Kuala Krai, was killed, he said in a statement issued here today.
In the 11am incident on Monday, Mohd Yusrizal was killed when a package he collected from the roof of a vehicle in front of his mother-in-law's house exploded in his hands.
Mazlan said investigation of the case was made under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The police have taken samples, including remnants of the explosives, gathered at the scene of the explosion and sent them to the Chemistry Department for analysis.
Following the incident, the Kelantan police have also formed a special team to investigate the case.
