Son of accident victims in Pendang still in ICU

One of the five children of a couple who were killed in a road accident in Pendang, about 30 km form here, yesterday night (Saturday) is still in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) after undergoing an operation yesterday.
Kedah Health Department director, Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said the operation was conducted after the 11-year-old boy bled from his spleen due to the accident.
"The victim is still unconscious and breathing through a respiratory machine but stable.
"All the five siblings are injured on several parts of their bodies and are being treated. Four are conscious and stable," he said in a statement here today.
Dr Norhizan said the siblings were under the close monitoring of specialist medical doctors at the hospital.
In the incident at 11.30 pm, the couple Mohd Padzil Rashid, 50, and Masmiwaza Mohd Noor, 42, who were teaching at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pendang and SMK Tobiar, respectively, were killed after their MPV skidded and collided with a trailer from the opposite direction in Kampung Alor Punti, Pendang.
They were heading home in Taman Setia, Pendang, about five kilometres away, from the direction of Titi Haji Idris.
The mishap seriously injured their children, namely, Maisarah, 14, Masyitah, 12; twins Muhammad Asyraf dan Muhammad Akmal, 11; and Munirah, six. --Bernama
