The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will table a final working paper to the Cabinet relating to the GrabCar and Uber service this year.
Its chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the first stage of the working paper had been submitted and reviewed by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to be tabled in the Cabinet.
"As a protection to land public transport, we have to ensure that when the government makes a decision, there must be a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that should be fair.
"Hence we present to the EPU several ideas and proposals that must be implemented if we are to accept the other players (GrabCar dan Uber) in this industry," he told reporters after officiating the new SPA southern region office in Menara MSC Cyberport, here today.
Syed Hamid said SPAD also needed time to look at changes in the laws besides taking into account the need to implement initiatives required by the public and taxi operators.
Meanwhile SPAD southern region head Amshida Ahmad Rani said the new office at Menara MSC Cyberport, Jalan Bukit Meldrum here had started operations since last January 1.
"Since January 1 until May 19, we have received 9,245 applications from customers," she said when speaking at the function.
She said 12 counters were provided such as applications for new licenses, license renewal, changing of permit conditions, issuance of driver's card and temporary license (LPS) application.
