The Land Public Transport Commission's (SPAD) Transformation Plan which involves the future of the Uber and Grabcar services is expected to be tabled to the Cabinet next month.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri said the initial plan was to table it to the Cabinet tomorrow, but there were still matters that needed to be refined.
"We have to decide for the rakyat (people). The Cabinet has to look whether it is reasonable to be considered," she told reporters after handing over duties to her successor Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said during the Prime Minister's Department Legal Affairs's Aidilfitri gathering here today.
On June 18, SPAD in its Taxi Industry Transformation Programme proposal to the government, among others, clarified on the need to allow under the law Uber and Grabcar services and to level the playing field for taxi drivers.
Prior to this, the media had also reported on several quarrels involving the drivers of taxis and the two ride-sharing apps.
Commenting on her new portfolio, Nancy said focus will be given to efforts and innovation programmes including in building cooperation with foreign countries.
In the restructuring of Prime Minister's Department portfolios, Azalina was tasked to take over Nancy's responsibility on legal affairs while Nancy will oversee the Malaysian Innovation Agency, the Malaysian Nuclear Power Corporation and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology, effective June 28.
