Special gift awaits Merdeka babies in Melaka

MELAKA: Babies born this Aug 31 in Melaka will receive a special gift from the National Registration Department (NRD) in the state.
To be eligible for the gift, their births have to be registered at any NRD office in the state between Aug 31 and Sept 16, said Melaka NRD director Norazlee Sulaiman.
He said they would also stand a chance to receive special gifts NRD's strategic partner, the Melaka office of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).
"The gifts will be given to celebrate the birth of the 'Merdeka' babies, as well as to enliven this year's National Day celebration," he told reporters when met at the Melaka NRD #KeluargaMalaysiaTeguhBersama Fly the Jalur Gemilang programme here today.
He said a total of 39 registration of babies born on Aug 31 were processed by the Melaka NRD last year last year, compared to 32 in 2020.
Meanwhile, Norazlee said 1,000 Jalur Gemilang will be used to decorate the Melaka NRD Headquarters and its five branch offices in the state to enliven the National Day celebration .
He also said 55 athletes from NRD Melaka will participate in the Malaysian National Registration Sports Championship (Supma) to be held for three days in Shah Alam, Selangor, from Aug 26.
They will participate in nine events, including volleyball, netball, table tennis and badminton, he added.
