Special task force probing 1MDB not disbanded - IGP

The Special Task Force set up to investigate the government investment arm 1Malaysia Development Berhad has never been disbanded, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said on Tuesday.

He said the police were awaiting the report on the probe by the National Audit Department on 1MDB so as to complete their investigation.

"The Special Task Force has never been disbanded. It has been discharging its duty. We are waiting for the report from the National Audit Department. Our investigation will not be complete without that report.

"We must identify the offences to conduct the investigation. Our investigation will proceed so long as there is new evidence," he told reporters after an appreciation event by the Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad.

Khalid was asked to comment on the statement by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Aug 5 that the joint Special Task Force had been disbanded, and that the member agencies were operating on their own.

The task force comprises Bank Negara, the Attorney-General's Chambers, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Police.

National Audit Department deputy director R. Raja Sunthara Kannan said on Tuesday the outcome of its investigation into 1MDB accounts would be released in about three months.

He said the department was implementing the second phase of the investigation, which was more detailed, related to several elements which had not been investigated.

Khalid said the police often held meetings with the other members of the Special Task Force.

"The meetings are not coordinated by the Attorney-General's Chambers. Nevertheless, we are still in touch with the teams of the three other agencies," he said.

On another matter, Khalid said the police would not allow the convening of a congress on 'Love and Sex with Robots' in Johor next month.

"I would like to warn the organisers concerned not to be nonsensical or try to do something abnormal in this country. Police will take firm action against them," he said, stressing that police would investigate the proposed congress.
