The Transport Ministry has set up a special team to investigate the accident involving two Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) trains near the Kuala Kubu Bharu yesterday.
Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said it was hoped that the team, which was led by KTMB, would be able to submit their report as soon as possible.
"The ministry views seriously this accident. It shouldn't have happened.
"We want to know whether the accident was caused by drivers' failure to follow the procedures or simply due to system failure," he told reporters after chairing the MCA Central Working Committee meeting here today.
Three passengers were slightly injured when the Ekspres Rakyat train from Butterworth to Johor Bahru brushed against the Electric Train Service (ETS) train heading from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh at 1.45pm.
All other passengers were transported to their destinations in buses.
While hoping that such a mishap would not recur, Liow said the drivers of the two trains had also been suspended pending investigation.
