Even though most of the students are aware they can obtain their SPM results via SMS, they simply prefer not to do so.
Based on a dipstick survey by Astro Awani, it was revealed that over 95 per cent of respondents are aware of the SMS service. From this amount, only about 3 per cent of them have tried the service.
Most of them said they prefer to physically go to their respective schools to take their results instead of depending on the SMS service.
“I want to laugh together with them if the result is great. I want to cry with them if the result is bad. SMS won’t be able to give me that feeling,” said Izlia Izalan, 18.
Izlia is not the only one who feels that way. Sara Radziah, 18, said she wants to be with her friends to go through the moment as this probably will be the last time they see each other.
Diana Ashikin Roslan, 28, said she is not aware of the SMS service but even if she does, she will still go to her school to collect the result.
Meanwhile, Chan Hew Wei, 18, said that even though she went to her school to collect her results, she still tried out the service.
“I sent a SMS to check on my results but I didn’t get a response,” she said.
Last year, the Education ministry introduced the SMS service to enable students to check their results from the comfort of their homes.
For those who are not able to go their schools for obtain their results, they can check their results through SMS by typing SPMidentity card numberindex number and sending to 15888.
When releasing the results, Education director-general Tan Sri Abd Ghafar Mahmud said more students scored straight A's in the 2012 SPM examination than in the previous year.
A total of 15,793 out of 459,118 students scored straight A's in the examination, a 0.13% increase from 2011.
Additionally, a total of 481 top scorers received A+'s in all their subjects.
A total of 472, 541 students sat for the examination last year.
