SPNB has revived 86 housing projects

Syarikat Perumahan Nasional Bhd (SPNB) has revived 86 housing projects involving 27,783 abandoned houses nationwide to date, entailing redevelopment costs totalling RM613 million.
Of the total, 32 projects comprising 14,538 houses were revived through financial assistance while another 54 projects consisting of 13,243 houses were rehabilitated with advisory services, says Datuk Shuib Md Yusop, a member of the SPNB Board of Directors.
SPNB is currently reviving four projects under the 2009 Economic Stimulus Package involving 413 houses entailing RM46.5 million in rehabilitation costs, he said when launching the second phase sale of affordable homes at Taman Lahat Indah 2 here, Sunday.
Shuib said 15,320 affordable homes in 29 projects in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak have been completed so far.
He said nine projects with 6,167 houses are being built, with Sabah having the highest number of affordable homes in two projects comprising 2,040 houses.
Shuib said SPNB received 57,893 applications from throughout the country since the government introduced the people-friendly housing programme in 2002.
He said 34,678 applications for people-friendly houses have been evaluated and of the total SPNB has delivered to the owners 19,489 houses costing RM1.2 billion.
"In Perak, SPNB received 5,795 applications and has approved 3,462 applications which will cost RM225 million in construction costs.
"So far, SPNB has handed over to the owners 1,959 houses. It is currently building and processing sales and purchase agreements for 753 houses," he added.
The Taman Lahat Indah 2 housing project launched today comprises 226 houses which will be built in two phases on a 12.42 hectare site.
It consists of 50 units single-storey medium-cost terrace houses, 32 units of double-storey link houses and one bungalow.
The single-story medium-cost terrace houses costing RM99,999 each has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, double-storey link houses with three bedrooms and two bathrooms cost RM197,194 while the bungalow unit costs RM322,616.
