The state government is scrutinising applications for more than 80 hectares of land in Kampung Telebong to ensure that only those who truly qualified will be approved.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the land was previously approved by the previous administration, but the big flood of 1926 had forced the original owners to move out and stay all over the place.

"The fact is that the land belonged to the owners. Thus, the government has to scrutinise every application with priority being given to the next of kin of the owners," he told reporters, here yesterday.

He said that for the moment, approval would not be granted but the government might give its approval after the 13th general election or at an appropriate time.

In another development, Adnan said about 140 hectares of the 280 hectares applied for by the residents of Kampung Lebu for a cluster land project had been approved by the government recently.
