SHAH ALAM: Selangor UMNO has looked into the seats it wants to contest in the upcoming state election and will hold a meeting at the state Barisan Nasional (BN)-level to discuss it officially.
State UMNO chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said following that, they would sit down and discuss with Pakatan Harapan (PH) the seat distribution for the election.
"What's important is at the UMNO level it is settled...we are ready now to sit and discuss it. It is up to PH to think about how to begin the discussions in the spirit of a unity government," he said in a press conference here yesterday.
He said although UMNO and BN did not succeed in winning any parliamentary seats in Selangor in the 15th General Election (GE15), the party managed to garner a lot of votes, especially in Malay majority areas.
"I think this must be the basis of our negotiations when we begin the discussions (with PH)," he said.
Meanwhile, Megat Zulkarnain said he would be meeting the leadership of the Tanjong Karang UMNO Division tomorrow to boost their morale for the upcoming state election.
Former UMNO Supreme Council member and Tanjong Karang UMNO Division chief Tan Sri Noh Omar as well as two other members of the division were recently sacked from the party for breaching party discipline.
Meanwhile, Megat Zulkarnain said Subang UMNO Division chief Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah had volunteered to contest for the UMNO Youth chief post in the 2023 party election.
Apart from that, he said Wanita UMNO secretary Datuk Rosni Sohar; Hulu Langat UMNO Division chief Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz; and Selangor UMNO Information chief and Sungai Besar UMNO Division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos had expressed their interest in contesting for UMNO Supreme Council member posts.
