They may be rivals, but today Malaysia Airlines (MAS) offered its support to AirAsia after its Flight QZ8501 went missing this morning.

On its Facebook page, it uploaded an image with a gray background with the words "Stay strong, AirAsia".

It added: "Our thoughts and prayers are with all family and friends of those on board QZ8501."

AirAsia Flight QZ8501 was reportedly in the Indonesian Flight Information Region (FIR) when communication was lost, more than 200-nautical miles southeast of the Singapore-Jakarta FIA boundary.

The vessel, carrying a total of 162 passengers and crew, was scheduled to arrive in Singapore at approximately 8.30am after departing Juanda International Airport in Surabaya at 5.35am.
