The state government and Terengganu education department will take stern action against teachers in a Besut school if any negligence was found on the part of the school, in relation to a bullying incident which went viral recently.
State Education, Science, Technology and Special Duties committee chairman, Ghazali Taib said the committee would follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Education Ministry and teachers at the school would also be investigated.
"We will check to see why no religious teachers were around to monitor the situation that it could lead to the incident," he said when asked to comment on the bullying video which went viral on social media since two days ago.
In the 6-minute-29-second video, four students in sports attire were seen taking turns to kick and stomp on another student in prefect uniform, at the school's prayer room.
Ghazali said that if a case of negligence was proven, the committee would not hesitate to take action against the teachers involved, including transferring or terminating their services.
"However, the case needs further investigation, and we will take appropriate action," he said.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Education Department director, Shafruddin Ali Hussin said the victim would undergo counseling to help him overcome the trauma and the department would try to resolve the matter amicably but it depended on the victim's family.
