A car which was spotted ablaze at an oil palm plantation in Ara Kuda here yesterday had been reported stolen in Jelutong last Wednesday.
According to a police spokesman, the owner of the vehicle bearing registration number PDV 8979 had lodged a police report on the day it was stolen.
"A man enroute to the plantation about 8am, found the car ablaze and contacted the police and the fire and rescue department," he said.
He said the police did not rule out the possibility that the car was torched by those who had stolen it.
Seberang Perai Utara police chief ACP Azmi Adam said the police were investigating whether the stolen car was used for criminal activities.
