The Federal Territory of Putrajaya Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) has been told not to hold anymore "syiok sendiri" (self-indulgent) programmes, but activities that could win the people's hearts instead.
Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor also urged MPPWP and Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) to go to the ground to meet the public and enquire about their situation through such activities.
"I am not satisfied with what the programmes in Putrajaya have achieved all this while. These are 'syiok sendiri' programmes, but we need to do programmes to know the people's real feelings and what they want.
"However, the programmes implemented have not been meeting their needs, so they (public) blame the government. I want the programmes organised, to prioritise the people's interest and wants."
Tengku Adnan, who is also the Member of Parliament for Putrajaya, said this in his speech when opening the Community Carnival and Neighbourhood Learning Centre (PPK) Day at the Precinct 11 Neighbourhood Complex, here, Saturday.
The minister, therefore, wants the residents' representatives to give accurate information to avoid public confusion, especially when the country is now facing the issue of increased cooking oil price.
"The people blame the government whenever there is a hike in the price of cooking oil or petrol. More so if there are outside parties taking advantage of the issue by giving false information.
"In such a situation, those in MPPWP and PPj should not just hold positions but play a bigger role in serving the people," he said.
Tengku Adnan also called on Putrajaya residents to together take good care of the public amenities provided by the government, as caring for and maintaining these facilities is a joint responsibility.
On the carnival, he said it could strengthen relations between PPj and the Putrajaya community, besides promoting togetherness and voluntarism among the young. -- BERNAMA
