MCA must stop harping on Chinese rights and instead should be more moderate, even as it walks into a new chapter attempting to revive support for the flailing party.

This, said its new Youth Chief Chong Sin Woon (pic, left) during debate session at the 60th MCA annual general assembly(AGM), is the only way to convince the younger voters.

“We cannot keep talking about getting Chinese rights. This new era is different now, when we keep shouting about the Chinese, the Chinese, the Chinese, especially our young, won’t listen,” said Chong.

Chong stressed that the party, Barisan Nasional, and the ruling Government as a whole should be focused on giving Malaysians “a fair society”.

Chong said MCA must “walk a different path” and the “package” itself to find its core values and not fall into racial extremism, which he said was becoming worst for the party.

“The government, we must be fair to all... the Chinese, Malay, Indian, Kadazan, Iban, everyone, then we’ll get somewhere,” he said.

“MCA for so many years have been clear that we need all communities, that we need to take care of poor Malays, the poor Indians, and because of that, the Opposition accuse us of betraying the Chinese.”

“But I think because 308(GE12), 505(GE13). I feel that MCA is becoming more extremist,” he said.

When Pakatan Rakyat parties took over several states, said Chong, the Opposition reformed itself from
being extreme left, to now being more moderate, because it realised that was what people wanted.
