KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor today called upon the people to reflect on the similarities that bound them and solely remain focus in strengthening racial harmony and religious comprehension towards building the ‘Sabahan spirit' especially in facing COVID-19.
Hajiji, in a statement issued in conjunction with Christmas celebration, said in the midst of COVID-19, Malaysians from all faiths have gone through their festive celebrations this year in strides during the pandemic and believed that Christians in Sabah will celebrate Christmas and New Year in a similar spirit.
“Let us build on the respect, stability and harmony that our forefathers have laboriously toiled for us and for future generations. This is the path of unity in diversity that we have always walked,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that this time of festivity, it was significant, the bravery of all the frontliners in fighting to contain the COVID-19 scourge as well as security forces for being vigilant day and night to keep the people and country safe, be remembered.
“We keep them and their families in our prayers. Let us unite and continue to fight the spread of COVID-19 by taking care of our families, communities as well as ourselves and strictly adhering to all safety precautions and standard operating procedures (SOP).
“In spite of the fact that 2020 have been an arduous year due to the pandemic, we should look forward to 2021 with courage and hope,” he added.
