Strict action against those who spread unverified info on terror attacks: IGP
KHALID: Action will also be taken against media outlets which report on Daish militant threats, quoting sources.
Strict action will be taken on anyone, including VIPs, who spread unverified information on terrorist threats in the country.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said doing so would only create anxiety and fear among the public.
"Don't ask me to take action now, I've already issued a reminder and a warning, so don't repeat it (unverified information),” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman on Monday.
He also said action would be taken against media outlets which report on Daish (IS) militant threats quoting sources.
"Such unverified information can come from someone as random as a noodle seller, and suddenly they become a 'source'. Reporting on this can create public chaos, and we would want to know who the sources are," he added.
Khalid, on his official Twitter, had earlier advised the public to stop speculating on the country's security and safety, adding that the Royal Malaysian Police are always prepared.
On Sunday, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had reportedly said that several 'hotspots' in the Kuala Lumpur are being targeted by terrorists, including Bangsar, Hartamas and Bukit Bintang.
