Strong winds, rough seas in Sabah warning

The Meteorological Services Department said in a statement that south-westerly winds of 40 km to 50 km per hour and waves as high as 3.5 metres were expected to occur and would be dangerous to small craft as well as sea sports and recreation.
The weatherman has forecast first-category strong winds and rough seas in the waters off Sabah (Sandakan, Kudat, West Coast and Interior) and the Federal Territory of Labuan until tomorrow.
The Meteorological Services Department said in a statement that south-westerly winds of 40 km to 50 km per hour and waves as high as 3.5 metres were expected to occur and would be dangerous to small craft as well as sea sports and recreation.
A similar situation was also forecast in the waters of Condore, Reef North, Layang-layang, Palawan and Sulu, it said.
Low visibility, of less than three kilometres, due to the haze in the Strait of Melaka as well as the waters off Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Kuching, Tawau, Tioman, Bunguran and Sulawesi was expected to persist until tomorrow, it added.
"The situation is dangerous to vessels without navigation equipment," the statement said.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms in the waters of Condore, Reef North, Layang-layang, Labuan and Sulu were expected to continue until early this evening, it said.
The condition causes strong winds of up to 50 kmph and waves reaching 3.5 metres high and was dangerous to small craft, it added.
