A Primary two student was among three who suffered burns due to an acid attack at a 'Nasi Lemak' stall by two assailants at 7.15am on Thursday.
The acid attack was believed to have been targetted at the 'Nasi Lemak' stall operator and his wife while the 8-year-old boy is believed to have become an innocent victim when he too suffered burns.
The student, Abdul Hakim Wafi Abdul Razak of Sekolah Rendah Islam Islah, Pendang was rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital after suffering three percent burns on his face, neck and arms.
The 'Nasi Lemak' operator, Shamsudin Samat, 60, suffered 17 percent burns and his wife, Fatimah Shafie, 46, suffered two percent burns on her face, chest and body.
The student's mother, Nazriah Abdul Rahman, 41, said the incident happened in the blink of an eye as her son was buying 'Nasi Lemak' for breakfast at a 'Nasi Lemak' stall near Jalan Kebajikan Masyarakat, Pendang.
"I was inside my car at the roadside when I saw two men on a motorcycle stopping in front of the stall and the pillion rider suddenly threw acid on the couple and fled. Unfortunately my son was also a victim of the attack," she said.
She had earlier claimed that her son had suffered 70 percent burns, but was later confirmed by the hospital director, Juita Ghazali that the student had only suffered three per cent burns.
Pendang district police chief DSP Abdul Aziz Ahmad said investigation was still ongoing to determine the motive for the attack.
