Student pleads not guilty to stabbing father

A student pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt on his father.
Lum Kar Yee, 18, made the not guilty plea after the charge was read to her in Mandarin before Magistrate Nur A'minahtul Mardiah Md Nor.
She was charged with voluntarily causing hurt on his father, Lum Su Hai, 45, with a knife at No. 47, Jalan 10/2B, Taman Desa Bakti, Sentul here at 10.30 am last Nov 22.
The charge, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to three years, or fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor R.Siamalah, who prosecuted, offered bail at RM4,000 in one surety.
Lawyer Farhan Read, representing Kar Yee, requested bail to be reduced to RM2,000 and for his client to be sent for mental observation under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Magistrate Nur A'minahtul Mardiah ordered Kar Yee to be sent for mental observation and to be allowed bail of RM2,500 in one surety after that.
She set Jan 11 for mention.
