Students overwhelmed with mixed feelings to return to school

After three months of being 'stranded' at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many students are experiencing mixed feelings to finally return to school.
Ahmad Imran Shahbudin, 17, said he was nervous as he had only used online communications to stay in touch with his teachers and friends since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced on March 18.
"We communicate with the teachers via Whatsapp during home learning and tomorrow, we will be meeting them face-to-face again. I bet we will feel a little awkward," he said when contacted by Bernama on Tuesday.
The Form Five student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Budiman in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu admitted he was worried about his safety to attend school since the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, as he would never leave home without a face mask.
On June 10, Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin announced that all schools in the country will be reopened tomorrow for Form Five and Six students who would be sitting for public examinations and equivalent international examinations.
Meanwhile, Sharifah Maisarah Nor Azlan, 17, said although she was thrilled to meet her friends tomorrow, she was concerned about adapting to the new normal.
"Previously, we can sit together to study and chat but with the new normal of one-metre social distancing, I am worried that we might forget the SOP," said the Form Five student of SMK Guntong in Setiu, Terengganu.
In Melaka, a Form Six student of SMK Dato' Haji Talib Karim, Alor Gajah, Nurul Balqis A.Malex, 19, was also excited to return to school after three months of home learning.
"There must be some issues in learning session as home learning is not the same as attending school. Anyway, I can't wait to go to school tomorrow," she said.
A Form Five student of SMK Bukit Katil, Melaka, Amirul Danial Hakimi, 18, said he must now adapt to getting ready to school after the Subuh prayers.
"I have to get used to this again because during the MCO we can go back to sleep or do some other things. However, I'm relieved because the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination is near, and returning to school can help me prepare for it," said the eldest of three siblings.
