There is sufficient supply of livestock nationwide for the Aidiladha celebration this Sept 1, said Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
Based on statistics from the Department of Veterinary Services, he said the total supply of cow and buffalo stock for this month was 43,418, heads, including 9,718 which were imported.
The total supply of goats and sheep this month is 31,726, where 20,200 are local livestock while 11,526 are imported, he said.
He said the demand for buffalo and cow for the Aidiladha celebration was 31,207 heads, and 25,174 head for goat and sheep.
"The supply of cattle, buffalo, goat and sheep for the Aidilfitri sacrifice exceeds demand.. So, there is no issue of supply shortage," he said during a press conference here, today.
Tajuddin, who earlier met importers of meat from India here said a total of 28 slaughter houses would be in operation throughout the peninsula and 13 of them had fulfilled the requirements of the Export Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) for slaughtering cattle from Australia.
