Sultan Ibrahim: Border reopening will spur socio-economic recovery

JOHOR BAHRU: The reopening of the Malaysia-Singapore border is expected to further boost the country's recovery efforts as well as the people's socio-economy after being adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, said Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Sultan Ibrahim, while expressing his happiness with the move, said the symbiotic nature of the relationship with the country's immediate neighbours would also recover better after the reopening of the borders.

"It also has a positive impact on the socio-economy, with families being able to reunite after a long separation and more businesses can slowly resume as people can get back to as normal a life as possible," said Sultan Ibrahim in a post uploaded via his official Facebook, today.

"I would like to thank both the Malaysian and Singapore governments for all their hard work and cooperation towards reopening the borders today," he added.

At the same time, Sultan Ibrahim also reminded the people that as the country is in a transition phase to endemic, all must adhere to the standard operating procedures that have been practised throughout the pandemic period.

"There is still a lot that is unknown with regards to the long-term effects of the disease or its variants.

"We must all stay vigilant and maintain the new norm habits that we have adapted to over the last couple of years to reduce the risks to our health," he added.
