Sultan Nazrin officiates MRSM Sultan Azlan Shah

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah today officiated the renaming of Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kuala Kangsar as MRSM Sultan Azlan Shah in a ceremony to mark the occasion here.
At the event, he was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja Puan Besar, Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah, as well as Raja Di Hilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnian Sultan Idris.
Also present were Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
The school, the eighth MRSM in Perak and 50th in the country was named after the Sultan's late father, Sultan Azlan Shah, the 34th Sultan of Perak.
MRSM Sultan Azlan Shah, developed on a 20-hectare site in Liman Kati Kota Lama Kiri here began operating on July 6, 2015 under supervision of its principal, Shahrome Daud.
Currently, the school with a student population of 725 - 347 boys and 378 girls - has 51 teachers and 29 support staff.
MRSM which was targetted as a catalyst for educational excellence was also planned towards achieving economic progress through collaboration of several organisations.
Since the establishment of the first MRSM in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan in 1972, there are now 52 colleges established nationwide to encourage Malays to participate in the fields of science, technology and management in an effort to raise the status of Bumiputera entrepreneurs.
To date, MRSM has produced over 170,000 students, many of whom have become either key figures in the civil service or prominent political and corporate figures in the country. - BERNAMA
