The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah described deceased Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Chin Peng as an enemy of the state.
The Sultan said Chin Peng had wanted to turn the country into a communist state.
He said many were killed defending the nation's sovereignty against the communist insurgents.
"Many members of the armed forces, policemen and civilians were killed and many more suffered as a result of Chin Peng and the communist terrorists' atrocities.
"I want to remind those who tried to be an enemy and pawn the county to foreign parties to be cautious and to repent so that they do not commit this wicked act again," he said when visiting the KD Sri Semporna naval base Thursday.
The sultan expressed hope that Malaysians would study and understand the history of the country properly and would not trade national pride and honour just for the sake of support and popularity.
"I believe Malaysians will not forget the country's darkest moments during the Emergency," he said.
He said the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) was an important component of the armed forces in defending the country's sovereignty by maintaining the security of the country's sea lanes.
The Sultan congratulated RMN for successfully overcoming the challenges during Ops Daulat, and called on all security agencies, including the police, armed forces and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, to cooperate and remain in constant contact with each other to effectively protect the country.
