Sultan Sharafuddin, accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, arrived at the mosque at 9.15 am, while Sultan Nazrin arrived with Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim at 9.50 am.
Among the dignitaries present were former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
Tun Rahah, 87, died yesterday evening at the Prince Court Medical Centre here where she was admitted for treatment.
Former Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob arrived at the mosque at about 10.15 am to pay his last respects to Tun Rahah.
Also paying their last respects were the Dewan Negara President Senator Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim; Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
Several MPs including Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (Pontian), Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling), Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil (Lembah Pantai), Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muar), Yeo Bee Yin (Bakri), Teresa Kok (Seputeh) and assemblywoman for Ketari (Pahang) Young Syefura Othman were also present to pay their last respects.
Former Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman and Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai were also present at the mosque.
A constant stream of people, regardless of race and religion, turned up as early as 8.30 am to pay their last respects to Tun Rahah.
In accordance with the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO), the standard operating procedures (SOP) set was being adhered to by all those present at the mosque, such as physical distancing and wear a face mask. They were also not allowed to stay inside the mosque for too long.
A total of eight tents were also set up in the parking lot of the mosque as a waiting area for family members and the public before entering the mosque.
People also required need to write their particulars in the registration book or use the MySejahtera application before entering the mosque.
Earlier, Tun Rahah’s remains arrived at the mosque at 7.50 am to be bathed and wrapped in shroud.
The tahlil recitation was held at 12.40 pm before funeral prayers led by Imam Mohd Khairul Hafiz.
It was drizzling when crowd began to leave the mosque at about 2 pm and Tun Rahah’s remains were taken to the National Mosque for the state funeral ceremony and later laid to rest at the Heroes’ Mausoleum.
