SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin today expressed their deepest condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II to the British royal family and the British people.
In a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, Their Highnesses said the Queen would always be remembered with deep respect and affection as a sovereign that dedicated her life to the service of her people.
"Her reign was characterised by a sense of duty, dedication and commitment in serving her countries and the Commonwealth. She stands admired and revered across the world as a figure of stability and of unity over a lifetime of enormous change," the statement said.
Queen Elizabeth II visited Malaysia on several occasions where she attended a lunch with Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah at Alam Shah Palace in Klang in 1972 and 1989, as part of the 11th Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) meeting and visited the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam.
"Sultan Sharafuddin had also been invited on to HMS Britannia to have dinner when it was berthed at Port Klang in 1972 and 1989 on the invitation of Her Majesty.
"Her Majesty was always very gracious and engaging in her discussions to continually improve bilateral relations with the people of Selangor and Malaysia," the statement said.
